Social Media Influencer Critique:  David Dobrik TW: Talk of Sexual Assault      While being a social media influencer may seem like it is constantly full of paid vacations, brands sending you free products, and many "friends", there is also a side of the influencer lifestyle that exposes many people and brings to light all of their worst mistakes. Although the Instagram pictures and YouTube videos may make it seem like these people are living the perfect lives, it does not take much for someone on the Internet to find out something that can ruin someone's career. A perfect example of this is David Dobrik, a YouTube personality who seemed to have a huge career ahead of him before recent controversies have put his career on a downhill spiral.      24-year-old David Dobrik was born in Slovakia before his parents moved to Illinois when he was 6 years old . After high school, Dobrik moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue his social media career star...

#9 - Classmate Blog Critique

2021 Classmate Blog Critique     One aspect of our Mass Media classes that I particularly enjoy is getting to see and read my classmates' blogs as they update them throughout the semester. Not only is it interesting getting to see what my peers are looking at and researching for our assignments, but I am also able to get some ideas for the assignments if I feel stuck on the topic. While all of my classmates have done a great job on their blogs this semester, there are two that I wanted to focus on for the classmate blog critique. These two blogs are Mackenzy Turner's and Cory Evans'.     Starting with Mackenzy's, there are a few things that I really enjoy about her blog. Right off  the bat, the appearance of her blog and the aesthetic of it is very appealing. It is a simple look and has a very convenient and efficient feel that allows the reader to easily scroll through her past posts. I think it is very important to have a look on your website that draws...

COVID coverage around the world          The pandemic has almost completely turned around the lives of virtually everyone in one way or another. While COVID-19 has given us chances to find common ground with many people and has allowed more people to rely on each other, there is a large and steady difference that has occurred between the United States and the rest of the world. Bruce Sacerdote, an economics professor at Dartmouth College, said he began noticing something different while watching COVID coverage on popular news networks in the U.S. . Bruce said that everything seemed so negative despite any promising data that he has heard of surrounding the pandemic. It seemed like these news channels were emphasizing the increase of COVID cases when they were rising. In addition, when these cases were falling in a majority of the country, the news was focusing on the smaller percentage of places where the cases were continuing to rise.     ...

Social Media Influencers      If you are on virtually any social media site, it is not at all uncommon to see people who are known as “social media influencers”. According to Influencer Marketing Hub , an influencer is someone who has “the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others because of his or her authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with his or her audience” or has “a following in a distinct niche, with whom he or she actively engages.” As social media has quickly started occupying a large part of many people’s lives, it is not surprising that social media jobs have become increasingly popular.       While social media influencers do not necessarily need a degree or much experience to do what they do, this industry’s numbers have bursted forward in such a short amount of time and is continuing to grow every day. This influencer marketing has grown from being worth $1.7 billion in 2016 to an expected $13.8 billion in 202...

#6 - CRITIQUING A MEDIA CRITIC

Seth Meyers     There is a term often heard and said among people that says "everyone is a critic" and, while that is definitely true in most cases, there are some people whose opinion is admired above others and who make a career and a living out of the constant criticism of the media and media personnel. An example of this type of critic is Seth Meyers who is well-known enough to have his own show named  Late Night with Seth Meyers.  Meyers currently has many job titles such as comedian, writer, producer, and television host and has become best known for his time on  Saturday Night Live  which eventually led him to getting his own late-night talk show. Seth began his career, after graduating from Northwestern University, as a comedian traveling with a group performing comedy.      When Seth was noticed by the SNL producers, his career skyrocketed as he began being nominated for prestigious awards, such as numerous Emmy’s, ...

News of the World https://www.vulture.com/article/movie-review-news-of-the-world-a-western-with-tom-hanks.html      Tom Hanks is no stranger to the big screen or high rating movies, and the craziest that was 2020 did not stop him from continuing his career with another hit movie, News of the World. In the movie, Hanks plays a Civil War veteran, Jefferson Kyle Kidd, whose job is delivering news to towns around post-war Texas. While on his route one day, Kidd comes across an overturned cart where he finds a young girl, Helena Zengal, crouching behind it. The girl ends up being named Johanna and she is a white girl who was taken by Kiowa tribe when she was just a baby. The movie follows the pair traveling across Texas as Jefferson tries to find Johanna's family and get her home.      Kidd learns that Johanna is German and that she knows hardly any English at all. This heart-warming story is also extremely suspenseful and has a few action packed moments ...

The Future of Wireless Charging        Typically, when I think of technology, my mine immediately goes to phones. Phones are such a huge part society and companies like Apple and Samsung are constantly stepping up their upgrades in order to have the best cellphones possible. One of the biggest aspects of phones that usually plays a large role in the purchase is charging. People shopping for new phones are often checking the battery life, charging speed, and so much more. Recently, wireless charging has become one of the most popular aspects of cellphones. With charging pads and stands, the need for a charger that inserts into your phone is becoming less and less. While these new forms of charging are becoming more popular everyday, could there be another way to charge your phone that requires even less work from the consumer?     OPPO, a Chinese consumer electronics company, is working to find an answer to that very question. At the Mobile World Co...
