#2- TELEVISION REVIEW
Survivor
For many people, including myself, reality TV can be somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Especially in reality TV game shows, it can be extremely easy to get so intrigued by what you are watching that it can sometimes feel like you are in the show itself. One show that has done an outstanding job at making its viewers feel like they are actually in the show is Survivor. Survivor debuted on CBS in the year 2000 and has now been running for 40 seasons. With an extraordinary season premiering in Spring of 2020, many people are now highly anticipating season 41 of the hit show.
For most of the time that Survivor has been running, the show has switched locations on a season-to-season basis with the show taking place in locations like Nicaragua, China, and Cambodia. However, since its 33rd season in 2016, Survivor has solely been filmed in the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji. The main reason for the show permanently being filmed in Fiji is because of cost. Survivor host, Jeff Probst said that almost half the show's cost is covered by Fiji and that, "It's taken that part of the show out of our hands and lets us focus on creative." Being permanently set in one location also removes the stress of having to move all of the Survivor crew and setup around the world every two years when the show is being filmed.

For many Survivor fans like myself, we are anxiously waiting for season 41 of the show to premiere. Filming for this season was supposed to take place in Spring 2020 in order for it to debut in Fall of 2020, but COVID-19 pushed back production severely. While the situation is completely understandable, this just means that the season will not be coming out until later this year, if production goes according to plan. Survivor and CBS have not announced the theme or cast for season 41, but it can be assumed that it will contain all new players seeing that veterans of the show have played a part in the last 3 seasons.

I have many reasons for being so drawn into the show of Survivor, the main one being because I have a personal connection with the watching of the show. When I was very young, I remember my mom and dad always watching Survivor and I would occasionally watch with them. As I got older and was able to actually understand what was going on throughout the season, my mom and I watched it together constantly. To this day, we both watch Survivor together and, even when I am not at home, we text and call each other to discuss what happened on the episode.
I am also drawn in by the competitiveness of Survivor. I love watching shows like Big Brother and Amazing Race, and I love that they all make me become more competitive as I watch. There is social, mental, and physical aspects that are so important in the game of Survivor and I love watching the contestants strategize their way to the end in hopes of winning the $1 million prize. Sometime in the future I would love to go on Survivor and get a chance to play. Until then, I will continue to be a "superfan" of what I think is the greatest reality TV competition show yet!
